Tired of wasting time and energy trying to remember passwords?

Why Use a Password Manager?

In a previous post, I covered two other options for managing online account information: storing your passwords in your browser/device, or using pen and paper. Both of these methods have drawbacks: people work across multiple browsers and devices, and pen and paper is too cumbersome. Max Eddy of the New York Times said it well:

Everyone should use a password manager. It's the most important thing you can do—alongside two-factor authentication—to keep your online data safe.

Which Password Manager?

While I can't tell you which password manager is most secure (that's out of my bailiwick and changes over time), I can tell you that Bitwarden is free for individuals, and is on three recent lists from popular, reputable publication:

Remember, these recommendations are not fixed. Check current lists and weigh the pros and cons of the top choices. Sadly, there are no guarantees in the digital world. LastPass, once a top-recommended password manager, was hacked in 2022, compromising private user data.

How do Password Managers Work?

You will need to create an account with Bitwarden (or any other password manager you choose) and then download the app for your browser and/or phone. Bitwarden has a video series to help new users with account creation and setup.
